Last weekend saw a jam packed schedule for sport with the rugby being the main focus for Irish fans in general.  Below is a brief update on all the major sporting events;

Rugby - Ireland crushed Wales in a comfortable 27-12 victory at Croke Park on Saturday, setting up a possible fifth Triple Crown in seven years if we can beat Scotland next Saturday in Croke Park.  Declan Kidney insists that is all the motivation needed to end the championship on a triumphant note.

Football - Rooney fires home another two goals as Manchester United win 3-0 against Fulham at Old Trafford to take top spot in the English Premier League, while the biggest news to come from England over the weekend is news that David Beckham’s career could be over with a ruptured Achilles tendon which happened while playing for AC Milan last night.  The injury will certainly mean he misses the World Cup in the summer and many have speculated that this will ultimately end his footballing career!

Meanwhile Robbie Keane scored an impressive hat-trick for Celtic as they beat Kilmarnock 3-0 in Saturday’s Active Nation Scottish Cup match, this comes off the back of news that Tottenham first team coach Joe Jordan insists there is no chance of Robbie Keane remaining at Celtic beyond the end of his loan period.
In the Airtricity League Dundalk and Drogheda United drew 2-2 after the Lilywhites came from two goals down to snatch a dramatic late draw.

F1- Michael Schumacher made his long awaited comeback in formula one with a steady sixth place finish in the Bahrain Grand Prix.  Ferarri again dominated with an impressive one/two finish for Fernando Alonso and Massa.

Golf- Padraig Harrington took a satisfactory 3rd place in the weekend’s  WGC-CA Championship in Miami.  American Tour boss Tim Finchem also anticipates that the wait for Tiger Woods to announce his comeback date will be over ‘pretty soon’.

Boxing - First on the list has to be the world title boxing fight between the current heavy weight champion of the world, Nikolai Valuev and the challenger, Britain’s David Haye which will take place in Nuremberg this weekend!  The anticipation surrounding this fight has reached fever pitch, with Sky dubbing the fight, DAVID AND GOLIATH

Lord of the Flies the movie due to the massive size of Valuev (7 foot 2 inches), the media attention has been frantic and should Haye beat Valuev, this would surely be one of the biggest upsets we’ve seen in boxing for some time and may add some much needed energy to the sport!

Football - The Spider Woman full This weeks English Premier League games has another mouth watering clash to look forward to, as league leaders Chelsea play second place and current Premier League Champions, Manchester United at Stamford Bridge!  Victory for either side will mean they will be sitting pretty at the top of the table so its sure to be a heated affair.  United will be without Rio Ferdinand while Chelsea have no immediate injury worries.

Other games include Arsenal It Came from Outer Space rip  V Wolves, Villa V Bolton, Spurs V Sunderland and Man City V Burnley.

Rugby - Dead Man dvdrip In rugby, England play Australia at Twickenham on Saturday in a friendly that should prove to be anything but! England will be expecting big things from bright young star Courtney Lawes and fans will also be pleased to see the return of influential star Johnny Wilkinson.  Despite the obvious high points for England they will find it very difficult to get any result against the Wallabies, a team Ireland will have the pleasure of facing very soon!

Golf - We’ll see the final two rounds of the WGC-HSBC Champions tournament in Shanghai played and few would bet against world number one, Tiger Woods from claiming yet another win as he leads at the half way stage.  Rory McIlroy did produce a 68 in the second round but is still some seven shots behind Woods while a 69 has lifted Padraig Harrington to one-under, nine off the lead.
